§ 13. Mr. Murtonasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how many cases of hardship arising from the Land Commission's activities have been brought to his notice since 15th April, 1969.
§ Mr. Denis HowellThirty-four betterment levy cases in which some degree of 1111 hardship was claimed have been brought to my notice since 15th April, 1969.
§ Mr. MurtonWould the hon. Gentleman like to be aware that I have a whole host of other cases which have not been brought to his attention, including many in my constituency?
§ Mr. HowellI am not aware of that, but in any case that is not the question the hon. Gentleman asked. There are a further 157 cases where the Land Commission has taken action, and in November it was considering a further 643 cases.
§ Mr. John LeeWhile not subscribing to the attitude of mind displayed by the hon. Member for Poole (Mr. Murton) may I ask my hon. Friend to take into account that it is desirable as far as possible to allow people of fairly modest means to spread their payments over a reasonably long period? This is generally regarded as acceptable to the Land Commission but I should like reassurance.
§ Mr. HowellAbsolutely. That is the policy of both the Government and the Land Commission.
