§ 2. Mr. Blakerasked the Minister of Transport if he will make it a condition of his approval of the capital expenditure involved that the British Railways Board shall improve the services which the Board proposes to introduce from May 1970 to stations on the coast line from Preston to Blackpool South.
§ Mr. MurrayThe Board tells me that no capital expenditure is involved.
§ Mr. BlakerIs the Parliamentary Secretary aware that this new service will be inferior to the service which exists both for commuters and for passengers using these stations? Will he look at the matter again, particularly since British Rail cannot give me an estimate of the alleged savings involved?
§ Mr. MurrayThat has nothing to do with the original Question about capital expenditure, which I have answered. We are satisfied that the new concentration on Blackpool North is a sensible solution to many problems in that area.
§ Mr. Arthur DavidsonIs my hon. Friend aware that many of my constituents use this route, particularly in the summer? They regard this service as deplorable and the cuts as even more deplorable. Will he have another look at this?
§ Mr. MurrayI am certainly prepared to look at anything that hon. Members may put to me on this. I shall be glad to answer any specific points if my hon Friend will write to me.
