HC Deb 09 December 1969 vol 793 cc212-3
5. Mr. Blaker

asked the Minister of Transport if he has now received the project feasibility study about the line of the proposed road link between the M6 and the Fylde Coast; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Bob Brown

Yes, Sir. We have just received the final report on the project feasibility study. My right hon. Friend will announce a decision when the recommendations have been carefully considered.

Mr. Blaker

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the number of casualties over the next three years which could be saved if this link had been built by now is reliably estimated at 2,500, of which 78 will be fatal? Will he therefore give an undertaking to announce the decision very speedily?

Mr. Brown

I should not attempt to confirm the hon. Gentleman's figures. I hope that we can give this decision in the spring, although I must also take into account the final decision on the boundaries of the Leyland Chorley new town.
