§ 27. Mr. Arthur Davidsonasked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what changes have been made in her Department's Resettlement Transfer Scheme.
§ Mrs. CastleI would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Barrow-in-Furness (Mr. Booth) on 24th July, 1969. The changes mentioned then came into effect on 1st September.—[Vol. 787. c. 430.]
§ Mr. DavidsonIs the Minister aware that the improvements to which she refers are most welcome? Can she assure the House that the advantages of the scheme are being sufficiently publicised by her Department, particularly with a view to enabling workers to move into areas where there is a potential shortage of labour?
§ Mrs. CastleThrough our local exchanges and other services we give extensive publicity to those schemes, but I can assure my hon. Friend that one of the purposes of the conferences such as that which will be held in his area of North-East Lancashire in January is to bring the Resettlement Transfer Scheme to the attention of workers in the area to meet the very shortage of labour to which my hon. Friend refers.
