§ 19. Mr. Dalyellasked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what she is doing to identify those groups who are low-paid.
§ Mrs. CastleMy Department's new earnings survey has yielded a wide range of information about the incidence of low pay in the economy.
§ Mr. DalyellWill the results be taken into account in any White Paper?
§ Mrs. CastleYes. The results of the survey have of course been published in the D.E.P. Gazette each month from 1688 May to October of this year. There was a special article in the October issue dealing with some of the causes of low pay. I have had these findings very much in mind in evolving a policy for the low-paid in the next stages of the prices and incomes policy as my hon. Friend will see when a White Paper is published.
§ Sir B. Rhys WilliamsIs the right hon. Lady studying the possibility of helping the low-paid workers through the tax system?
§ Mrs. CastleThe hon. Gentleman knows that that is not a matter for me.
