§ 14. Rear-Admiral Morgan-Gilesasked the Secretary of State for Defence what 1472 progress was made at the Five-Power defence talks at Kuala Lampur in which the United Kingdom took part, which ended on 6th November.
§ Mr. HattersleyOfficials of the countries represented at the Five-Power Conference on Far East Defence held in Canberra in June met in Kuala Lumpur from 4th to 6th November. They examined the requirements of an air defence system and agreed upon the need for the various elements to be knitted together. The officials also considered a number of matters affecting naval co-operation. Progress was made in both these areas. Further detailed work will proceed in the joint-Service and single-Service Advisory Working Groups. The meeting was also briefed on the good progress made with the planning of the Joint Commonwealth Exercise in 1970.
