HC Deb 28 April 1969 vol 782 c938
44. Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the number of hours per week that a consultant engaged on a nine-elevenths contract will need to work on the basis that he takes his full allowance of travel time.

The Secretary of State for Social Services (Mr. Richard Crossman)

The hours of work stipulated under the terms of service, after deduction of maximum travelling time allowed between home and main hospital, would be 26½ in a nine-session post and 32½ in a whole-time post.

Mr. Pavitt

As my right hon. Friend is bringing a fresh look to so many Health Service questions, will he look again at the question of whole-time as compared with part-time consultancy, and will he endeavour to bring it into his new Mark 2 Green Paper?

Mr. Crossman

I shall look at it, though I doubt that it will go into the Mark 2 Green Paper.
