§ 28. Mr. Ian Lloydasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations have been made to him by parents and others about the need for increased grants to improve the general condition of primary and secondary school buildings in the Portsmouth area; what consultations he has had with the authorities concerned; and what steps he proposes to improve the situation.
§ Miss BaconI have received representations about conditions at Aldermoor Road County Primary School, Purbrook, both from the hon. Member and direct from parents. I am in consultation with the Hampshire authority about the situation and will write to the hon. Member.
§ Mr. LloydIs the hon. Lady aware that only the slender opportunity presented to her by her next reply to my supplementary question stands between her and the fury of a thousand Portsmouth mothers? Will she use the influence of her Department to see that something is done in this area?
§ Miss BaconAs the hon. Gentleman knows, there is one new school in this area included in the 1968–69 programme. I recognise that this is an area of growth were the schools are very full, and I am anxious to help. We are in touch with the local authority, and, of course, we shall have future building programmes.
