§ 22. Mr. Gwynfor Evansasked the Secretary of State for Wales when he will publish an economic development plan for Wales.
§ Mrs. WhiteThe economic strategy for Wales has already been set out in "Wales: The Way Ahead".
§ Mr. EvansIs the hon. Lady aware of the speed with which the situation in Wales is deteriorating, with 50,000 fewer men at work in Wales today than there were two years ago? Is she aware that the deflationary package on Friday underlines once again the truth that a Welsh government would find it impossible to make such a mess of the economy of Wales as English Governments do?
§ Mrs. WhiteI do not accept any of the points made by the hon. Gentleman, and I repeat that the broad strategy has already been set out very forcefully and very wisely in "Wales: The Way Ahead."
§ Mr. HoosonIs the hon. Lady aware that what Wales really needs is no more plans but actual economic development?
§ Mrs. WhiteThat is exactly what Wales is getting and I should have thought that the hon. and learned Member for Montgomery (Mr. Hooson) would have been delighted at the innumerable announcements made within the last three months about major economic developments in the Principality.
