HC Deb 19 November 1968 vol 773 cc1251-2

Motion made, and Question proposed, That this House do now adjourn.—[Mr. Fitch.]

10.2 p.m.

Mr. Stan Newens (Epping)

The matter I wish to raise is not a trivial issue of purely local importance but one which I would, as I say, welcome some sort of elected second Chamber with a leavening by cross-benchers who are nominated, because I think they have to be, and with a levelling of judges and bishops and the hereditary members—

It being Ten o'clock, the debate stood adjourned.

Debate to be resumed Tomorrow.

Mr. Speaker

May I observe that have been able to call 24 speakers today because speeches have been reasonably brief. I do not think that the debate has suffered.
