§ 13. Mr. Blakerasked the Secretary of State for Economic Affairs what is the result of his study of the document, "Strategy II: The North West of the 70s", published by the North-West Planning Council; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. UrwinSome of the recommendations have substantial implications for national policy, particularly those concerning industrial development. However, together with other Ministers concerned, my right hon. Friend and I hope soon to discuss "Strategy II" with the Planning Council.
§ Mr. BlakerHas the Minister observed that the report lists as its first priority for public investment in the area the improvement of transport facilities and particularly stresses the importance of the improvement of road links between Fylde and the Preston area? Will he draw this report to the attention of the Minister of Transport?
§ Mr. UrwinThe specific points the hon. Gentleman mentions are within our knowledge. We have gone very extensively into the strategy. There are wide-ranging discussions flowing from this report and ultimately the very points made here and many others will be discussed with the Planning Council at the meeting to which I have referred.
§ Mr. CleggWill the Minister be specific and say when he will tell the House the results of all these communications he is having with other Departments?
§ Mr. UrwinAs soon as possible. Any statement to the House must obviously await the completion of the discussions to which I have referred.
