HC Deb 11 November 1968 vol 773 cc1-2
1. Mr. Tilney

asked the Minister of Transport what are his plans for a bridge on a third crossing over the Mersey from the area of Speke to near Eastham on the Wirral side.

The Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport (Mr. Bob Brown)

None, Sir.

Mr. Tilney

As a bridge is likely to be much cheaper than a tunnel, and as so many people on both sides of the Mersey want another crossing, will the Minister look at this matter again and, anyhow, get on with the design?

Mr. Brown

A decision will not be possible on the nature or the location of a third Mersey crossing, until we have been able to consider the findings of the Merseyside Area Land-use Transportation Study.
