56. Mr. Speed

asked the Minister of Transport when the Midlands motorway link is scheduled to be started and completed between the M1 and Erdington.

Mr. Bob Brown

Work started last month on the first section of the M1 to Erdington length of the Midlands link motorway. The whole length will be completed by the end of 1971.

Mr. Speed

Can the hon. Gentleman give an up-to-date estimate of the amount by which traffic on the appropriate sections of the A5 and the A45 will be reduced when the link is opened?

Mr. Brown

That is another question, of which I would need notice.
