31. Mr. Allason

asked the Minister of Transport the present estimated cost of the A41 bypass of Kings Langley to Tring.

Mr. Bob Brown

Alternative lines are being considered for a more comprehensive improvement of A41 from Watford to Tring, the cost of which is likely to be around £10 million.

Mr. Allason

Does the Minister appreciate that this is a series of bypasses which could be built in series? Will he, therefore, agree not to wait until the money is available for the whole project before he gives the go-ahead for at least the most urgent parts?

Mr. Brown

I cannot go further than say that we hope to start work in 1972, subject to satisfactory completion of statutory processes and land acquisition.
