§ 30. Mr. David Watkinsasked the Minister of Power what plans he has to establish an appeals procedure for dealing with applications for benefit under the Redundant Mineworkers (Payments) Scheme, 1968.
§ Mr. FreesonMy right hon. Friend has agreed with the unions the establishment of local committees to examine disputed cases, and is discussing with the Department for Employment and Productivity how we might call upon the 687 personnel of industrial tribunals as advisers in such cases.
§ Mr. WatkinsIs my hon. Friend aware that the National Coal Board appears to be interpreting the Order very narrowly and legalistically and not in the spirit which I am sure was intended by hon. Members who supported the Order in the House? Can we be assured that borderline cases will be given very adequate attention by the very welcome machinery which my hon. Friend is setting up?
§ Mr. FreesonIt is not for me to comment on particular cases across the Floor of the House. I only hope that the machinery to which I have referred will be set up soon so that disputes can be solved through it.
