HC Deb 05 November 1968 vol 772 cc672-3
13. Mr. Ridsdale

asked the Minister of Power whether he will make a statement on future investment policy in the gas, coal and electricity industries.

Mr. Freeson

This is as stated in White Papers Cmnd. 3437 and 3438.

Mr. Ridsdale

But is the hon. Gentleman not being rather inflexible in this policy? Does not the rapid expansion of gas investment during 1968–73, both on conversion and on capacity, render the subsequent large investment in electricity rather unnecessary?

Mr. Freeson

The hon. Member could not have heard my Answer. I referred, quoting the White Papers concerned, among other things to the White Paper on Fuel Policy, which lays down the guide lines for investment, and we are sticking to them.
