§ 7. Mr. Wallasked the Minister of Overseas Development if he will make a statement about the results of his Department's recent investigation of the market value of land in Kenya.
§ Mr. OramI regret I am not yet in a position to make a statement about this as the report of the British Government valuer is still under consideration by the Kenya Government and ourselves.
§ Mr. WallIs the hon. Gentleman aware that this is a matter of great importance, as market value is the basis of all land valuation in Kenya? Is he further aware that now that only Kenya citizens are allowed to buy or rent land there is considerable doubt whether there is a market value for small mixed farms?
§ Mr. OramI agree about the importance of this, and that is why an investigation has been made recently. However, I would ask the hon. Gentleman to await a more appropriate moment.
§ Mr. TurtonCan the hon. Gentleman give an assurance that all offers on the valuation of land under the Million Acre Scheme and the later scheme are made known to the British High Commission?
