asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what was the change, in numbers and in percentages, in the total number employed in manufacturing, in service industries and in all industries, respectively, in each region of Great Britain between January, 1966, and January, 1967.

Is it not a fact that S.E.T. has failed to encourage employment in the manufacturing industries? Will the Government take a long, cool look at the mess they are making and get rid of this iniquitous tax?

For service industries, estimates are available only for June each year. The table shows the changes between June, 1966 and June, 1967: service industries under the standard definition used here are not the same as industries which bear the Selective Employment Tax.
