§ 20. Mr. Wingfield Digbyasked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what are the latest unemployment figures for Dorset; whether they show an increase or decrease on the previous figures; and how they compare with two years ago.
§ Mr. FernyhoughAt 8th April, 1968, 2,670 persons were registered as unemployed in Dorset. This was 40 fewer than in March 1968 and 1,120 more than in April 1966.
§ Mr. DigbyI am glad to have those figures, but is there not a case for the Government modifying their policy of discouraging new industry from going to Dorset?
§ Mr. FernyhoughNot at the moment, because the vacancies are now arising in Dorset. I hope that that will continue, because that will inevitably lead to further falls in the present unemployment rate.
