HC Deb 13 May 1968 vol 764 cc848-9
24. Mr. Dodds-Parker

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what action she is taking, in view, of the increased number of disabled now unemployed in the Cheltenham area, to make funds available to build the sheltered workshop in Cheltenham without further delay.

Mr. Fernyhough

Unemployment has recently fallen among the disabled in the Cheltenham area. Nevertheless, it has been agreed that a sheltered workshop should be provided for the severely disabled. My Department is awaiting revised plans from the local authority. When these and other details have been studied and approved, a grant will be offered, of which the first instalment can be paid early in the next financial year.

Mr. Dodds-Parker

I thank the hon. Gentleman for that Answer. Is he aware that there is now an excellent site available, that there is a substantial number of disabled people in the area and that his reply will be very welcome indeed?

Mr. Fernyhough

indicated assent.
