§ Mr. SwinglerThe report on this investigation, which covers the whole question of communications between the Wellington / Oakengates / Dawley complex and the Wolverhampton / Birmingham area, is expected by the end of this year.
§ Mr. MontgomeryIs the Minister aware that "by the end of this year" is a very long way ahead? Is the Ministry really prepared just to sit back and wait till a serious accident happens at this spot, which is causing very great concern to local people? Will he take no action at all?
§ Mr. SwinglerI think the hon. Member may know that some important changes in road communications are going to take place involving the expenditure of many millions of pounds. In view of that, we want, of course, to get the best possible technical advice as to how this should be done, and, in the meantime, to take no action which would prejudice road improvements which are to take place in this area. That is the reason for the delay. If in the meantime there is any action we can take to meet matters, we will certainly take it.
