HC Deb 25 March 1968 vol 761 c914
Mr. Farr

On a point of order, Mr. Speaker. May I refer you to a matter relating to Question No. 40, which I asked of the Minister of Labour a moment ago? When I asked him that Question, the reply which I received was that the answer was a matter for the boards themselves. May I raise two points with you, Mr. Speaker? First of all, is it or is it not within the rights of an hon. Member of this House to ask manpower Questions relating to the training boards? Secondly, is it not necessary for the Minister to provide the relevant information when it is sought by a back-bench hon. Member?

Mr. Speaker

The hon. Gentleman has been in the House long enough to know that Mr. Speaker has no power to compel a Minister to answer in the way that an hon. Member wants him to. It is not unknown for hon. Members to be disappointed by Ministers' replies.
