§ 46. Mr. Wingfield Digbyasked the Minister of Labour what plans he has for revising the Cost of Living Index; and what extra items are to be included.
§ Mr. GunterAs I announced on 11th March in reply to a Question by my hon. 907 Friend the Member for Cardigan (Mr. Elystan Morgan), I have accepted an interim report of the Cost of Living Advisory Committee recommending that meals bought and consumed outside the home should be included among the price indicators used in the Index of Retail Prices from February, 190.—[Vol. 760, c. 204]
§ Mr. DigbyAs there has not been a wholesale inquiry since 1962, is there not a case for going into other items also, particularly transport items? At a time like this, is it not important that the public should have confidence in the index?
§ Mr. GunterThe hon. Member knows very well that the items which are used as indicators in the Cost of Living Index are constantly under review. If he has any particular items or details in mind, I am certain that his advice would be welcomed.
