HC Deb 20 March 1968 vol 761 c412
40. Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Defence to what extent and on what occasions his department have directly or indirectly censored regimental magazines, and why.

Mr. Boyden

There is no censorship of regimental journals; but they must not contravene Queen's Regulations and the Official Secrets Acts.

Mr. Biggs-Davison

Was it with the approval or in any way on the instructions of the Ministry of Defence that an editorial was excised from The Globe and Laurel, the corps magazine of the Royal Marines?

Mr. Boyden

I will look into that: I have had no notice of it.

Sir H. Legge-Bourke

May we have an assurance that, if any reference is made in regimental magazines to the observations of the Secretary of State referring to hon. and gallant Members on this side as Hitler Youth, there will be no censorship?
