HC Deb 20 March 1968 vol 761 cc387-8
1. Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will make a further statement on the route options which will be open for future deployment of Her Majesty's Forces outside Europe.

The Secretary of State for Defence (Mr. Denis Healey)

No, Sir.

Mr. Biggs-Davison

Since the eastabout route round the north of Africa might not be available in an emergency, is not the policy of bans and sanctions against the Governments of Southern Africa a dangerous folly subversive of national security? And how would the Government reinforce Hong Hong?

Mr. Healey

To the first part of the supplementary question the answer is, no. To the second part of the supplementary, by a variety of routes both east-about and westabout.
