HC Deb 19 March 1968 vol 761 cc224-5
9. Mr. Cronin

asked t?e Minister of Health if he is yet in a position to make a statement on the circumstances under which a small child, Nigel Hayward, who subsequently died, when taken by his mother to Loughborough General Hospital, suffering from acute poisoning last September, was given neither treatment nor first aid but referred to his doctor.

Mr. K. Robinson

The Sheffield Regional Hospital Board has not yet completed its consideration of the Report of the Committee of Inquiry into this case.

Mr. Cronin

Is my right hon. Friend aware that there will be grave dissatisfaction among the people of Loughborough in view of the tragic circumstances in this case, which arose as far back as September? As in any case there is widespread dissatisfaction about the casualty service of this hospital, does not this add fuel to the flames?

Mr. Robinson

It is important that this report should be carefully considered by the Regional Hospital Board. It is hoped that it will be considered by the Board's General Purposes Committee on 25th March and that a statement will be issued after the next full meeting of the Regional Hospital Board on 8th April.
