§ 41. Mr. Wingfield Digbyasked the Lord President of the Council if he is aware that House of Commons writing paper is no longer available in quarto size; and since this size is more convenient than the very large or the very small size, if he will arrange for further supplies to be made available.
§ Mr. CrossmanThe Post Office is to introduce a scheme, probably in September, in which it will ask all its customers to post their mail wherever possible in envelopes within a preferred range of sizes. The Select Committee on House of Commons (Services) therefore recommended, in its Twelfth Report of last Session, that the existing sizes of writing paper should be replaced by paper which fits the new envelope.
§ Mr. DigbyIs the Lord President of the Council aware that one can still put a quarto-size piece of paper in one of the two envelopes supplied, and that it will now be impossible to write a medium-length letter without gross wastage of paper? Is that a good example for hon. Members of this House to set?
§ Mr. CrossmanI must admit to the hon. Gentleman that when I reflected on 32 his Question I thought that this was something I should like to discuss once again with the Services Committee.
