HC Deb 04 March 1968 vol 760 cc14-5
14. Dame Irene Ward

asked the Minister of Social Security whether she will consider providing some benefit under the National Insurance Scheme for the wife who is chronically ill or disabled.

Mr. Loughlin

The question whether the present cover of National Insurance can be extended is another matter being studied in the course of planning our wage-related pension scheme.

Dame Irene Ward

In view of the fact that the Minister of Social Security has just said how much concern this is causing her, would it not have been better if she had made a statement of policy? It is policy that I am after, and not just words, words, words.

Mr. Loughlin

We are also concerned about policy. What annoys me is the enthusiasm that seems to have infected the benches opposite since 1964. As my right hon. Friend said a moment ago, what has to be done in the context of this question is to get the information, and we are getting the information.
