§ 32. Mr. Eadieasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many representations he has received regarding the working of the Inland Revenue administration in Scotland; if he is satisfied with the present administration; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Harold LeverNone, Sir. I think the present arrangements work satisfactorily.
§ Mr. EadieIs my hon. Friend aware that this question is prompted by the fact that my mailbag at least contains a large increase of protests about the machinations of the Inland Revenue in relation to people's Income Tax? Does my hon. Friend not find that, in general, that is the position?
§ Mr. LeverEnthusiasm for the activities of the Inland Revenue is not widespread either in England or in Scotland, but I believe that the present system is well understood and works efficiently. 236 None the less, if my hon. Friend has any specific suggestions on how it might be improved, I shall be glad to consider them.
