HC Deb 25 July 1968 vol 769 cc962-3
20. Mr. Ian Gilmour

asked the Postmaster-General how much money he intends to spend on television advertising this year.

Mr. Stonehouse

About £260,000. Over £100,000 of this will be spent on behalf of the Treasury as part of the "Small Saver" campaign. Of the balance, £60,000 will be spent on lauching the new Giro service.

Mr. Gilmour

Would the right hon. Gentleman assure the House that the television advertisements will not have the same trivial naivety as the Press advertisements currently running in theFinancial Times and other newspapers?

Mr. Stonehouse

I do not agree with the hon. Gentleman's criticism. I believe that both the television and Press advertising being promoted by my Department is extremely good.

Mr. Bryan

Does the right hon. Gentleman think that advertisements such as the one I am holding up for hon. Members to see and which appeared in theFinancial Times at a cost of over £900 will result in a commercial return?

Mr. Storehouse

There is a later Question down about this form of advertising.
