HC Deb 25 July 1968 vol 769 cc977-8
Q5. Mr. Marten

asked the Prime Minister if he will now nominate a Cabinet Minister as Second Secretary of State.

The Prime Minister

No, Sir.

Mr. Marten

As the first Secretary of State is having such great difficulty in raising the level of employment, should she not be reinforced by a Second Secretary of State dealing exclusively with unemployment?

The Prime Minister

I think that is highly ingenious on the part of the hon. Gentleman. If he goes on like that, he will be coming on. As my right hon. Friend's title is "Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity", I should have thought that the hon. Gentleman would have paid tribute to the fact that in the first few months of this year productivity has been running at a rate some 6 per cent. above the same period last year.

Mr. James Hamilton

Will my right hon. Friend agree to appoint a Minister of Fact so that the true record of this Government can be made known to the people?
