asked the Postmaster-General whether, in view of the number of recent representations made to him, he will now reconsider the decision to introduce all figure dialling in the Greater London Area.

No, Sir.

Does the right hon. Gentleman appreciate that the introduction of all-figure dialling will coincide with the proposed fragmentation of the London telephone directory and that this combination of events will lead to massive inconvenience to the general public?

Mr. Stonehouse

I am not satisfied that that will be the case, but we are proposing to have maps in the telephone directories to show the location of the numbers which will give subscribers the opportunity to identify the location of the exchanges they are 'phoning.
