§ 2. Mr. W. O. J. Robinsonasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how many orders designating areas of outstanding natural beauty he has confirmed within the last 12 months; and how many are at present under consideration by the National Parks Commission.
§ Mr. MacDermotMy right hon. Friend has confirmed three, relating to the Hampshire Coast, the Norfolk Coast and the Kent Downs.
The National Parks Commission is preparing three orders designating the North Wessex Downs, the Suffolk Coast and Heaths, and Dedham Vale and has 244 several others at an early stage of consideration.
§ Mr. RobinsonMy hon. and learned Friend is to be congratulated on the progress already made in this important matter, but may we hope that the impetus will be stepped up in the future?
§ Mr. MacDermotYes, Sir. The Commission is keeping this matter actively under consideration. The statutory provisions are thorough and, in consequence, somewhat lengthy.
§ Sir Knox CunninghamCannot the Minister do something to prevent areas of beauty being covered by gigantic electricity pylons?
§ Mr. MacDermotThat is another question. There are procedures for considering that matter as well.
