HC Deb 18 July 1968 vol 768 cc1652-3
28. Mr. Brewis

asked the Postmaster-General why post boxes in Academy Street, London Road, and King Street, Stranraer, are being removed; and how many new post boxes are being provided to meet the expanding needs of Stranraer.

The Assistant Postmaster-General (Mr. Joseph Slater)

There is no immediate intention of removing any of these posting boxes. I am having the posting arrangements in Stranraer reviewed to see how future needs can best be met.

Mr. Brewis

Will the hon. Gentleman keep in mind that the population of Stranraer is on the increase and industrial development is increasing, too? Will he see that postal facilities keep pace with this growth in the town?

Mr. Slater

Yes, Sir; but I remind the hon. Gentleman that there are at present 17 posting boxes in Stranraer and posting facilities there are on a fairly generous scale. We must await the review and see what the outcome is.
