21. Mr. Wallace

asked the Minister of Health if he will outline the scope of the voluntary service in National Health Service hospitals; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. K. Robinson

It covers numerous activities. I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of a circular issued to hospital authorities listing some of these. It is my policy to encourage such service to the full.

Mr. Wallace

Is my right hon. Friend aware that there is ample opportunity for voluntary service in the N.H.S., and that organisations coming forward are certain to be encouraged by hospital management committees?

Mr. Robinson

I completely endorse what my hon. Friend says. All the major voluntary organisations are in touch with my Department in various ways, which willingly gives any help it can.
