HC Deb 16 July 1968 vol 768 cc1225-6
15. Mr. Judd

asked the Minister of Health what action he has taken to reassess the status of hospital building supervisors within the National Health Service.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Health (Mr. Julian Snow)

In conjunction with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland my right hon. Friend has appointed a Committee to review the present arrangements for the conduct of hospital building maintenance and minor capital works, and this review will cover the work at present done by hospital building supervisors and their responsibilities and qualifications. I am sending my hon. Friend details of the membership and scope of the Committee.

Mr. Judd

Does not my hon. Friend agree that the Committee is taking a very long time to report, and that if we are to prevent the expensive deterioration of essential buildings urgent action is necessary?

Mr. Snow

My hon. Friend should know that the Committee has only just been appointed, and will hold its first meeting on 25th July. However, if he is concerned about salary structure, there are certain great advantages already in train for this class of staff.
