HC Deb 16 July 1968 vol 768 cc1230-1
31. Sir Knox Cunningham

asked the Minister of Health whether it is possible to treat male patients at the sterile unit which was opened at Fulham Hospital in 1964; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Snow

Yes, Sir, 12 male patients have so far been treated in the sterile unit at Fulham.

Sir Knox Cunningham

I am grateful to the hon. Gentleman for that information, but is he aware that Dr. Bagshawe and his team are doing brilliant and unique work on cancer in this unit, which brings great credit throughout the world not only to the National Health Service, but to Britain? Does he agree that it should continue to receive every help, including assistance from charitable trusts in this vital work?

Mr. Snow

The hon. and learned Gentleman is right in his observations about this unit. It will not suffer from lack of monetary support from the National Health Service which at present is providing four-fifths of the budget.
