§ 7. Mr. Biggs-Davisonasked the Minister of Health how many nursing homes in England and Wales have now been registered for abortions; and how many have not.
§ Mr. K. RobinsonFifty-three nursing homes have been approved for the purposes of the Abortion Act out of a total of 1,099 registered in England and Wales 1237 at 31st December, 1967, under the 1936 Public Health Act.
§ Mr. Biggs-DavisonDo the figures which the Minister has show a considerable reluctance to be registered for this purpose?
§ Mr. RobinsonI should not like to interpret the figures in any sense like that. Sixty-four completed forms of application, six applications were refused, one was withdrawn, and four are still under consideration.
§ Mr. James HamiltonIs it not the case that, since the B.M.A.'s statement about abortions, my right hon. Friend is finding it difficult to get nurses and in some cases doctors to carry out this work?
§ Mr. RobinsonNo, Sir. I have no evidence of those sorts of results from any statement made by or on behalf of the B.M.A.
