HC Deb 25 January 1968 vol 757 cc571-2
32. Mr. Dodds-Parker

asked the Postmaster-General what proposals he has for making available, and popularising, public telex facilities in Cheltenham and other such centres.

Mr. Edward Short

Although they have been publicised, little use has been made of the public telex facilities in London, Manchester, Liverpool and Belfast. In view of this, I should not be justified in providing additional telex call offices at present.

Mr. Dodds-Parker

Would the Postmaster-General consider making facilities available for the public, in publicly-owned organisations such as Thomas Cook and also in certain hotel chains, at a special rate?

Mr. Short

Yes, a good deal is being done at the moment. Perhaps the hon. Gentleman would like to discuss this with me. I am only too anxious to extend the telex network as widely as possible.
