HC Deb 25 January 1968 vol 757 c570
27. Mr. Eadie

asked the Postmaster-General of the authorised establishment of full-time posts on 1st November, 1967, of 8,587 in Scotland, how many are women; and what has been their average length of service.

Mr. Joseph Slater

Thirteen women were employed full-time on postmen duties. We also employed 183 part-timers. The average length of service for full-timers was 5½ years and for part-timers 1⅓ years.

Mr. Eadie

While thanking my hon. Friend for that detailed reply may I ask him to tell the House what is being done about these unfilled vacancies?

Mr. Slater

The vacancy situation arises from time to time with turnover of staff, but recruiting is a continuous process. These vacancies were spread over many offices and except in Edinburgh and Glasgow there was no large shortage in any one office.
