§ 26. Mr. Gardnerasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his present estimate of the income from the tax on gaming machines.
§ Mr. Harold LeverThe Budget estimates included a little under £3 million on this account.
§ Mr. GardnerI accept that it is a useful and honourable way of raising revenue, but does not my hon. Friend think that to charge a tax of £75 on a bona fide sporting club which makes a net profit of just over £125 from a machine is a little unfair? Will he ask the Chancellor to look at this matter when he is preparing his Budget?
§ Mr. LeverI will certainly ask my right hon. Friend to look at the matter, but I know that my right hon. Friend would not wish at this point to have any comment on this subject from me.
