HC Deb 17 January 1968 vol 756 c1753
Mr. Kirk

With your permission, Mr. Speaker, and that of the House, I desire to present a Petition by the Rural District Council of Braintree in the County of Essex concerning the decision of Her Majesty's Government to create the third London Airport at Stansted. The Petition sets out the intention of Her Majesty's Government, points out that the Inspector appointed by Her Majesty's Government felt that such a decision would be a calamity for the neighbourhood and continues: Wherefore your Petitioner prays that Her Majesty's Government may be called upon to examine afresh its policy for national airports and the suitability of Stansted and other alternative sites for the third London Airport and to refrain from granting planning permission for the development of the airport at Stansted until such time as such policy for the national airports and the suitability of Stansted and of other alternative sites for the third London Airport have been investigated at a public inquiry. The Petition concludes with the customary words, And your Petitioner, as in duty bound, will ever pray.

To lie upon the Table.
