§ 4. Dr. David Kerrasked the Minister of Transport what discussions she has had with the Greater London Council about conducting a further London traffic survey.
§ Mr. SwinglerThe Greater London Council has suggested ways in which this work might be developed. My right hon. Friend is considering these.
§ Dr. KerrI am indebted to my hon. Friend for that helpful reply. Would not he agree that the changes in the scene since the last survey make nonsense of its projections—in particular, such things as changes in commuter services in the Southern Region and electrification? Has not the pattern of London traffic changed, thus justifying another traffic survey?
§ Mr. SwinglerAs my hon. Friend points out, there is a continuing need for such a survey. We are awaiting a further report which the G.L.C. will publish in the next few months arising from the London transportation study. In the meantime, our technical experts are considering how a further survey should be carried Out.
