HC Deb 22 February 1968 vol 759 cc626-7
4. Mr. Lane

asked the Secretary of State for Economic Affairs when he expects to receive a report from the East Anglia Regional Economic Planning Council.

21 and 22. Dr. Gray

asked the Secretary of State for Economic Affairs (1) whether he will now announce the date of publication of the regional study made by the East Anglia Economic Planning Council;

(2) what are the East Anglia Economic Planning Council's medium- and long-term strategies for the region.

Mr. Dell

It is not possible to give a precise date for publication, but it is expected to be in the late summer of this year. I understand that it will indicate some preliminary views on strategy for the region.

Mr. Lane

While none of us would want to hustle this Council unreasonably, would not the hon. Gentleman agree that the sooner the Council makes known the lines along which it is thinking the easier it will be for industrialists, local authorities and others to give shape to their ideas for development into the 1970s?

Mr. Dell

I entirely agree with that. On the other hand, as the hon. Gentleman has said, it is important that this work should be done well. Therefore, we do not wish to hustle the Council.
