§ Mr. HamlingI beg to present the Petition of John Montgomerie of 1 Rose-bery Road, Cheam in the London Borough of Sutton, a partner in the firm of Goodman, Derrick and Company, Solicitors, which shows that, in the action Wigg v. The Spectator Limited, it may be material to present evidence touching statements made in the course of debates in this House. The Petition continues:
Wherefore your Petitioner prays that the leave of your Honourable House should be given to the following persons, namely, the right hon. Hugh Charles Patrick Joseph Fraser, Member of Parliament for the Stafford and Stone Division of Staffordshire, Sir Fitzroy Hew Maclean. Baronet, Member of Parliament for the Bute and North Ayrshire Division of Ayrshire and Bute, the right hon. Emmanuel Shinwell, Member of Parliament for the Easington Division of Durham, Alistair Brian Clarke Harrison, Member of Parliament for the Malden Division of Essex, Wilfred Sendall, Political Correspondent, to give evidence of or touching any statements made in the course of any Debates which have taken place in your Honourable House and of 1315 any matters arising out of or connected with the subject matter of the said statements or any of them so far as the same may be held by the High Court of Justice to be relevant to and admissible in the said action.
And your Petitioner, as in duty bound, will ever pray.
