asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether the fault in one of the generators of H.M.S. "Resolution" is due to design; and whether a modified version of generator will be fitted in later nuclear submarines.

The fault was due to a design weakness. The affected part will be modified in all machines, including those for later nuclear submarines.
