HC Deb 08 February 1968 vol 758 c625
5. Mr. van Straubenzee

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will include the rebuilding of Palmer Church of England Primary School at Wokingham in the school building programme for 1970–71.

The Minister of State, Department of Education and Science (Miss Alice Bacon)

Consideration of local education authorities' proposals for school building in 1970–71 must await the review of proposals for earlier years which have just been announced.

Mr. van Straubenzee

Does not the Minister of State appreciate that her Answer is extremely disappointing and throws further back, as a result of very recent decisions, the apparent chance of rebuilding a school which I suppose all will agree is substantially below standard?

Miss Bacon

I have not announced anything about this school. I said that we would be reviewing all the programmes in the light of the withdrawal of the money which was allocated for the raising of the school leaving age, because local authorities themselves might want to have different priorities in their areas as a result of this withdrawal.
