HC Deb 06 February 1968 vol 758 cc201-2
Sir J. Foster

I beg to present a Petition from Peter Frederick CarterRuck, esquire, partner in the firm of Oswald Hickson, Collier and Company, Solicitors for the Defendants in an action entered in the Jury List of actions for trial in the Queen's Bench Division of the High Court and entitled Wigg v. The Spectator Limited.

The Petition states that the issues in question in the proceedings concern correspondence of and reports prepared by and for Members of Parliament and statements made thereafter during debates in the House of Commons on 21st and 22nd March and 17th and 21st June, 1963, and that, for the foregoing reason, the evidence of certain hon. Members touching upon such proceedings in the House is relevant to the issues in question in the proceedings in the High Court of Justice.

It continues: Wherefore your Petitioner prays that the leave of your Honourable House may be given to call the following witnesses to give evidence of statements in the House of Commons in the said proceedings in the High Court of Justice, namely, Desmond Louis Donnelly, Member of Parliament for Pembroke, Ian Hedworth John Little Gilmour, Member of Parliament for Central Norfolk, John Anthony Kershaw, Member of Parliament for the Stroud Division of Gloucestershire, Angus Edmund Upton Maude, Member of Parliament for Stratford-upon-Avon Division of Warwickshire.

Sir J. Foster

I beg to move, "That leave be given to the said Members to attend and give evidence accordingly."

Petition to lie upon the Table.
