HC Deb 01 February 1968 vol 757 cc1537-8
20. Mr. J. E. B. Hill

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the number and proportion of local education authorities which have now established teacher centres.

The Minister of State, Department of Education and Science (Miss Alice Bacon)

One hundred and thirteen out of 162.

Mr. Hill

What steps is the Minister taking to ensure that this very important development, its maintenance and—I hope—its further extension, will not be jeopardised by the present restrictions on the education expenditure of local authorities?

Miss Bacon

These courses are arranged by local authorities, and I hope that they will continue. The hon. Gentleman will have seen the very valuable working paper produced by the Schools Council, which will, of course, continue in this very good work.
