§ 35. Mr. Moyleasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make a further statement on the United States Government proposals for a feasibility study of a possible Atlantic Free Trade Area.
§ Mr. WhitlockI have nothing to add to the replies which my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister and I gave to the hon. Gentleman the Member for Banbury (Mr. Marten) on 21st March and 5th March respectively.—[Vol. 761, c. 596; Vol. 760, c. 201.]
§ Mr. MoyleWill my hon. Friend not take the opportunity to correct an inadvertently inaccurate statement? United States Ambassador Roth told the Joint Economic Committee of Congress on 29th January that his office was studying the project.
§ Mr. WhitlockAs I pointed out to the hon. Member for Banbury (Mr. Marten) on the last occasion, the newspaper report of what Mr. Roth told the Joint Economic Committee of Congress was exaggerated and taken out of context. The United States Government have said that they are undertaking no such feasibility studies.
